According to a NY Times article, the Obama administration plans to include "significant" increases for veterans’ programs, including money for mental health services, in the new budget. Denis R. McDonough, the White House chief of staff, says the budget for the 2014 fiscal year will include $63.5 billion in discretionary funds for the Department of Veterans Affairs, a 4% increase over the current budget. It will also include $7 billion for mental health services, a 7% increase. 
Let's hope the increase will translate to more effective treatment for veterans dealing with PTSD and psychological trauma.

Tim Kaine met with two dozen military spouses and veterans at Old Dominion University. One of the attendees was Rob Fenimore, a 26-year-old former Marine corporal who served two combat tours in Iraq. Fenimore has been waiting for an appointment for psychiatric care with the Hampton VA Medical Center since last June and will finally be seen next month, almost ten months later.
