Dare we hope... for improved mental health services for our veterans? According to a NY Times article, the Obama administration plans to include "significant" increases for veterans’ programs, including money for mental health services, in the new budget. Denis R. McDonough, the White House chief of staff, says the budget for the 2014 fiscal year will include $63.5 billion in discretionary funds for the Department of Veterans Affairs, a 4% increase over the current budget. It will also include $7 billion for mental health services, a 7% increase.
Let's hope the increase will translate to more effective treatment for veterans dealing with PTSD and psychological trauma.
